Field Canvasser
Summary
Lift Louisiana seeks a team of 4 innovative, community-oriented, and values-driven people to work on a six-month-long deep canvassing program in Slidell, LA. Reporting to Lift’s Field Organizer, Canvassers will mobilize voters as a part of Lift’s first ever field program including deep canvassing. Canvassers will be canvassing, base-building, and advocating for abortion rights. The Canvasser position is part-time beginning in October 2024 and running through March 2025, with the possibility of extension through 2025.
Position Details:
Innovative community organizing program that centers abortion justice, mobilizes new supporters, sustains existing support, and advances Lift’s mission in St. Tammany.
Comprehensive deep canvassing program that entails going door-to-door and talking to voters in the community about abortion.
Outreach and base-building work to increase voter participation through door knocking.
Track and input data via Voter Activation Network (VAN) and MiniVan
Work closely with Lift’s Field Organizer, Deep Canvassing Consultant, and Lift’s Executive Director, and to ensure that the field program is meeting our goals.
Qualifications:
Knowledge and understanding of St. Tammany and the New Orleans suburbs
Comfort discussing abortion and reproductive rights
Ability to execute multiple projects, set priorities, and follow through on plans
Inventive, creative, and problem-solving approach to challenges
Ability to to build positive relationships with staff, volunteers, and supporters
Alignment with Lift’s values of compassion, collaboration, shifting power, self-determination, transparency and accountability
Bilingual capacity in Spanish, Vietnamese, and other languages is a plus!
Qualifications:
We are looking for people who have leadership experience and excellent communication skills, demonstrated commitment to reproductive justice, and who are dedicated to making lasting, positive change on important issues.
Experience in canvassing, campaign organizing, community organizing or field organizing preferred.
Willing to work a flexible schedule evenings and weekends, and some travel required.
Car and valid driver’s license required for in-state travel.
Work Environment:
This position requires in-state travel and extended periods of time walking outside.
Location:
This is a hybrid position. However, work must be performed in Louisiana. Co-working space will be available in Slidell, Louisiana.
Mileage reimbursement is given when employees use their own vehicle to get to turf.
Lift Louisiana is located in New Orleans.
Compensation:
The salary will be set at $25/hour, 15-20 hours per week. This is a part-time temporary position with possibility of renewal.
