Communications Manager

SUMMARY

Lift Louisiana is seeking a passionate and skilled Communications Manager to lead and execute strategic communications initiatives that advance our mission of empowering individuals through advocacy, education, and access to reproductive justice. The Communications Manager will be responsible for shaping and utilizing the organization’s voice, building brand awareness, and ensuring consistent messaging across all platforms. This role requires a strategic thinker and a creative storyteller who can engage diverse audiences and amplify the impact of Lift Louisiana's work.

The Communications Manager will manage a team of content creators and 1-2 interns. They will report directly to the Executive Director and work in close coordination and alignment with our Development Director and other relevant staff as applicable.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 20% 

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with Lift Louisiana’s mission, goals, and values

  • Collaborate with program teams to design and execute public education campaigns and advocacy initiatives that effectively communicate key messages

  • Collaborate with the Development Director to develop and implement publicity strategies for fundraising campaigns and events

  • Analyze metrics and trends to evaluate the effectiveness of communication efforts and make data-driven recommendations for improvement

  • Create and/or update marketing materials and documents in support of fundraising, donor stewardship, outreach and advocacy

  • Work with external vendors or consultants as necessary

  • Facilitate weekly communication meetings to align team efforts, discuss strategies, and review ongoing projects

External Communications: 60%

  • Use storytelling to amplify Lift Louisiana’s message

  • Create compelling content for digital platforms, including website, email newsletters, social media, and advocacy campaigns, to engage supporters and stakeholders

  • Oversee the production and formatting of email campaigns and email newsletter, incorporating contributions from various team members. Manage review, testing, and sending.

  • Oversee the organization’s branding and ensure consistency across all materials and communications channels

  • Proofread, edit, and publish general website updates, new website pages, and other website elements as needed

  • Craft responses to crises or managing communications during high-stakes moments

  • Develop and maintain an outreach calendar with specific target dates for social media posts, e-mails, and press events

  • Manage social media staff and interns

  • Manage social ad campaigns and other promotions; track and share results for continuous improvement to targeting and segments

Media Relations: 20%

  • Lead media relations efforts by cultivating relationships with journalists, drafting press releases, coordinating interviews, and monitoring media coverage

  • Produce press kits, press releases, pitches, and organize press conferences

  • Conduct key staff and board media prep related to each opportunity  

  • Develop talking points and messages for key stakeholders and executing media relations

  • Provide background to media outlets and journalists

  • Act as the organization’s spokesperson when needed, representing Lift Louisiana at public events and in media opportunities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

  • At least 3-5 years of experience in a communications or marketing role, preferably in a nonprofit or advocacy setting

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences

  • Demonstrated experience managing social media platforms and digital marketing campaigns

  • Familiarity with media relations and a track record of securing earned media coverage

  • Strong project management skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Commitment to reproductive justice and the mission of Lift Louisiana

Skills and Requirements:

  • Proficient in using social media platforms (such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Hootsuite and LinkedIn) for brand promotion and audience engagement. Knowledge of best practices for writing and publishing on different platforms

  • Proficiency in graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) and website management (e.g., Squarespace)

  • Ability to produce clear, compelling, and grammatically correct content across various formats, including social media posts, articles, and newsletters

  • Skills in planning, executing, and monitoring communication campaigns and projects, ensuring they meet deadlines and objectives

  • Competency in analyzing communication strategies’ effectiveness, using data-driven insights for continuous improvement

  • Strong ability to communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and external partners

  • Creative and strategic thinker with good judgment and ability to make independent decisions in a changing environment

  • Ability to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments, manage time, deliverables and meet deadlines

  • Understanding of digital marketing strategies, including SEO best practices and Google Analytics, to enhance online visibility and engagement is a plus

  • Knowledge of Louisiana’s political and social landscape, particularly related to reproductive health and rights

Location:
This is a remote position based in Louisiana. State and local travel may be required to fulfill job duties. 

Compensation:

The salary range for this full-time position is $60,000 - $65,000 with a minimum of 30 hours per week required.
