Oppose Dangerous Restrictions on Abortion

On Monday, the Senate will vote on S. 2133, a nationwide ban on abortions past 20 weeks. Voices from Louisianans, who know that this restriction harms patients, are essential to defeating it. Please call today!

Senator John Kennedy (202) 224-4623; Senator Bill Cassidy (202) 224-5824

Sample script:

Dear Senator ____

My name is ____ and I am calling to urge you to vote NO on S. 2311, federal legislation that bans abortion care after 20 weeks.

I recognize that the issue of abortion is both politically and emotionally charged, yet we must draw a hard line against insidious legislation that threatens access to healthcare.

S. 2311 imposes dangerous and medically unnecessary restrictions on women seeking abortion. It disproportionately impacts young people, low-income and rural families, and communities of color who already experience delays in receiving healthcare due to existing onerous restrictions like mandatory delays, medically inaccurate “counseling,” and unnecessary ultrasounds. Many women want abortion care earlier in their pregnancies --- 58% according to one study --- but are unable to access it.

S. 2311 undermines decades of legal precedent, and directly challenges Roe v. Wade. It’s time to stop politicizing reproductive healthcare services, and instead work to ensure access to a full spectrum of healthcare, including abortion.

We must honor and respect the autonomy, agency and self-determination of every person, and allow people to make the healthcare decisions that are best for themselves and their families. I urge you to vote NO on S. 2311.
