New Faces - New Session

The 2019 Legislative Session began today. We have to admit, we are a little excited about some of the new legislators and the progressive policies that they have introduced.

Go ahead and download our 2020 Policy Agenda.

We urge you to join us in supporting the proposals to:

·         Decriminalize consensual adult sex work

·         End solitary confinement for pregnant people who are Incarcerated

·         Expanding access to midwives and doulas

·         Stop race discrimination based on natural hairstyles

·         Pass the Louisiana Employment Non-Discrimination Act

Lift will also continue to support efforts to abolish the sales tax for diapers and feminine hygiene productsraise the minimum wage and guarantee paid family and medical leave to workers in our state.

Although we are looking forward to working proactively this session, but we are also ready for a fight. There are two bills that single out transgender young people for increased bullying and harassment by preventing them from participating in the sport they love. The “Save Women’s Sports Act” is part of a national anti-transgender effort to codify discrimination of young trans people.

This session we have an amazing opportunity to show our lawmakers that we support a progressive agenda for women and families and reject the conservative ideological agenda. More than ever, we need you to take action when called upon.

You can get more information about the legislation we are tracking here.
