HB 648 Takes Effect

On January 1st, the trans youth healthcare ban went into effect. It seems like most doctors have stopped giving affirming care to minors, but minors are still able to legally receive care until the end of 2024. We'll continue to fight for trans youth, but in the meantime, here's a helpful FAQ to help folks better understand and navigate the ban.

Folks navigating the ban are encouraged to apply for the Southern Trans Youth Emergency Project to receive assistance with accessing care outside of the state.

The law is being challenged. The folks are Lambda Legal and the Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation of Harvard Law School filed suit on Jan. 8, 2024, on behalf of five transgender Louisiana youth and their families against the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners to block implementation of Act 466 (HB 648). We're not sure what this means for us immediately but you can learn more here.
